DEFINITION:  
Under the direction of the Business Office Supervisor, this Representative is responsible for posting all CCSO payments, sorting mail, taking payments over the phone and copying checks and then posting payments, knowledge of billing systems to be able to review ledger with patients and answer billing questions, reviewing medical records, reviewing insurances, reviewing authorizations to add to the charges. Ability to reconcile the end of the month payments.

EDUCATION:  
Billing experience and/or training in healthcare knowledge of billing systems

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Basic computer skills and 10-key calculator.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Excel and spreadsheet manipulation.
  • Must have good organizational skills, reading, writing and proven communication skills.
  • Proficient math skills.
  • General office experience.
  • Detail oriented. Must be able to pay attention to detail.
  • Must be punctual.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:  

  • Two years of hospital/medical office or can demonstrate an understanding of hospital billing.

PRINCIPLE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Participates and implements age specific care and interaction.
  • Employee has attended departmental orientation (training) and annual inservice education for age specific training and implements in work area what was learned in age specific training.
  • Key in charges with accuracy and efficiency.
  • Update patient demographics and insurance as needed to resolve charge issues.
  • Update authorizations in chart to place onto the charge.
  • Must be able to follow directions and retain information.
  • Notify the business office manager of any trends in problems.
  • May be required to work some overtime including holidays and weekends.
  • Complete clerical tasks as needed.
  • Complete special projects or assignments as directed by the Business Office Supervisor.

SPECIFIC UNIT/AREA RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Claims submitted to insurance carriers in a timely manner (Relay).
  • Aging balance less than 17% for visits greater than 90 days.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Sitting for long periods of time.
  • Must be able to work in stressful situations.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

HAND AND ARM USE:

  • Must be able to use hands to write, use computer keyboard and 10-key calculator.

LIFTING AND CARRYING:

  • Must be able to carry storage boxes weighing up to 50 lbs.  Must be able to bend, stoop and lift overhead.

PUSHING AND PULLING:

  • Minimal as expected in an office position.

STANDING/WALKING/SITTING/CLIMBING:

  • Must be able to sit or stand for a reasonable period of time.

SENSE OF TOUCH:

  • NONE

HEARING:

  • Must be able to hear conversations, ringing telephones, equipment alarms and overhead speakers.

VISION:

  • Must be able to read handwriting, computer screens and direction signs throughout the facility.

MENTAL REQUIREMENTS:

MATHEMATICS:

  • Must be able to subtract, add, divide and multiply.

MEMORY:

  • Must be able to remember general and specific instructions of job duties.

LANGUAGE ABILITY:

READING:

  • Must be able to write/print clearly. Must be able to read and write at a high school level.

  • Must be able to write in a professional manner.

  • Must be able to speak logically with patients, physicians, co-workers and the general public.

  • Use judgment to analyze large quantities of data. Must remain calm to think and react properly in a stressful situation.
