On November 1, 2020, the Cancer Centers of Southwest Oklahoma and Comanche County Memorial Hospital will welcome Dr. Rufus J. Mark as our newest Radiation Oncologist. Dr. Mark will spend 3 days per week in the Lawton facility and 2 days per week in the Altus facility.
Dr. Rufus Mark graduated from Yale University with Phi Beta Kappa and Summa Cum Laude honors. He went on to graduate from UCLA Medical School and then Residency in Radiation Oncology also at UCLA. He has extensive clinical experience in High Dose Rate (HDR) Radiation Implants of the Prostate, Breast, Cervix, and Lung; Stereotactic Body Radiation Therapy (SBRT) of the Lung, Prostate, Breast, and Liver; Stereotactic Radiosurgery (SRS) for Trigeminal Neuralgia, Parkinson’s Disease, and multiple brain tumors; and Intensity Modulated Radiation Therapy (IMRT) of all sites. Most recently he served as Medical Director of Radiation Oncology at the Baylor Scott and White Medical Center in Waxahachie TX from 2016-2020.
On a personal note, Dr. Mark has been married for 32 years. He has three adult children all with degrees from Texas Tech University. One serves in the United States Marine Corps, a 2nd is a Firefighter, and the 3rd is a Manager for Dillard’s Department Store. He enjoys reading history and biography, listening to music ranging from Classical to Rock and Roll to Country, going to the gym, and walking the dog. He also wears Cowboy Boots!
Dr. Mark views being a Radiation Oncologist not as a job, but as a privilege. He has become known for praying with his patients.
